I'm 21 today. I shouldn't feel like I'm getting old, but I guess I do a little since the next "big birthday" is 40. I don't feel old, I feel really content actually. 21 is good...very good. :) Here's to you free souls, and firefly chasers. Tree climbers, porch swinger, air guitar players. Have an excellent week!

09/16/08 1 CommentIn the blink of an eye it can change your life.
It's basically been forever since I blogged. So much has happened. I'm 3/4 of the way done with school. One term left and I'm done. And....my advisor called me a few weeks ago and says "I just wanted to call you and congratulate you, because you were chosen to receive a scholarship from Berklee." How cool is that?!?! I literally screamed. Not even joking. It was very exciting.
These past few months have been crazy. My brother is getting married next month. And as that date gets closer, it becomes more and more my priority. Right now it's very close to the top of my list. I am super excited for it. I'm running all the live sound at his wedding and I get to get all dressed up.
The other girl I work with got a full time job at this marketing place down the street, so it's just me now. I get about 10-15 more hours per week. It's good and bad. But mostly good because I am almost finished with my program at Berklee. Then it's deciding whether to start into Music Business or get on to Nashville and then pick up Music Business while down there.
I'm looking for my own car. I'm tired of my parents bringing up the fact the they are gracious enough to allow me to drive one of their cars because they want to see their kids get a head start. So they bought a car and each kid has driven it until they got one of their own. It's a shame they put the guilt trip on in every discussion we have. A Toyota will be my next purchase and my key to moving out essentially. As long as I drive their car, I live in their house.
Happy thing: I threw a surprise bridal shower for my brother's fiance and good friend of mine. I've been planning it for months and she had no clue. I'm pretty proud of myself because no one has ever been able to keep something secret from her except me.
I think that pretty much sums up what's happened. Leave me a comment. I'll answer any other questions you have. I know it's been awhile so I may have left something out. Right now all musical instrument purchases are on hold. That's very sad for me...because I really need a new acoustic guitar.
Nashville is right around the corner. Oh how I miss it...

07/17/08 1 CommentCraziness leads to Crazy Dreams Coming True
I feel exhausted from the past 2 weeks and this is going to be a short blog because I'm tired and should be in bed.
I started another term of school 3 weeks ago. I work every day and when I'm not working I'm working on school or trying to relax. I have 4 kittens I have to get rid of before they tear my room apart, because I kept a stray that showed up at my house; I didn't know she was pregnant, because she was only 7 months old and really scrawny. I'm playing a gig in less than a month, which is exciting but stressful too as far as practice time goes. And then my brother is getting married in the beginning of October and hardly anything is going right. So I'm on edge. I'm low on cash and time and no idea what to do to make my head stop spinning.
And to think someday this should all lead to Nashville and touring on the road.

06/30/08 1 CommentSeeing Carrie
I know, I saw Carrie on June 10th and I'm just now talking about it. I've been swamped with work and school. Seriously.....AMAZING!! I bought pre-sale tickets and I really wanted front row or the catwalk, but scalpers and sponsors got those tickets apparently. When we got to the show, I totally surprised my best friend. She thought we were just going to hang out, and we pulled up to the arena...she was a little speechless. :) But she was like "Okay, where is section 11...and where is row...?" I said "follow me." I didn't really know where the seats were, but I had looked at the seating chart online before coming. So I'm trying find our row and I was looking at the ground and I said "here it is!" and I felt her grab my arm so I turn and she says "look." I look up and we were REALLY close! I was shocked. During JMC's opening, we noticed that there wasn't ANYONE is those catwalk seats. We thought of going over and sitting there during set change, but if the people actually showed up we'd be busted. Some of the seats filled up when Carrie was about to go on, but not all of them. I actually knew one of the girls from high school. She's 5 yrs younger than me and her parents are filthy rich and her dad's company was a sponsor. But I also found out that Seagate held tickets until the day of, so I maybe should've called but I didn't know they did that...kind of dumb. When Carrie got on....OMG...I was blown away. I was most impressed by the mix. The sound was INCREDIBLE! The mix was so much better than it was in Saginaw. It was really loud, but it wasn't ear piercing. I took tons of pictures. Once again they wouldn't let me take in my SLR...well in Saginaw I took it in but couldn't use it. This time I brought a backup just in case. I took video too. It's on my Facebook and if ya'll have Facebook, let me know and I'll befriend you.
Carrie was amazing as usual! I really wanted her to wear the skull tank for her opening songs, but she didn't. It's okay...I probably would've tried to steal it. I bought her a CareBear and when I was going to give my ticket to the girl she said "Hey, is that for Carrie?" I told her yes and she goes "I have backstage access, do you want me to go personally give it to her?" And I said "Yes!! It will totally save me from having to chuck it up onstage!" I was debating how I would do that, because I had no guarantee that Carrie would actually come close enough to grab it, let alone even grab it. I decided to use Nick's theory of throwing. Carrie was remarkable and I was so glad I took a different girl this time. She was the best concert goer I've ever seen! And afterwards, she even said "hey isn't Carrie's bus back there?" (pointing behind arena). I said "Um...yeah...definitely her bus." And she says "people are waiting...you think she'll come out?" Then we decided to go over there too. You have to understand though, I didn't expect this from my friend, because it was already getting late...not for me of course, but she's 3 years younger than me and I didn't want her mother wondering where we were and she had to get up at 7 a.m. too. It was totally cool though, she was fine with it. it meant the world to know that she was as in to Carrie as I was. When I saw her in Saginaw, the girl I went with just wanted to leave. We waited for probably an hour and her bus was in a fenced in area, pretty far away from us. We started talking to these girls and their mom...they were really awesome. And then her band started coming out to go to this Irish pub down the street and we met all of them. Her drummer and dang I can't remember all the guitarists' names. Can anyone help me out?? Her drummer, bass player, keyboard player, and the guitarist on the right side of the stage came out first. Then....her violin player...Jimmy! He talked to us the longest!! And then the other guitar player came out. We still waited for Carrie...and ACE came out!! Eventually Carrie got on her bus, but she was really far away and it was dark. There was no way she heard us over the noise of the semis and buses. They opened the gate and her bus drove away. Everyone was waving hoping she saw us through the tinted windows.
It was seriously the BEST concert I've ever been to!! I can't wait to see her again.

About soundchick
My name is Amanda and I went to Berklee College of Music for Producing. I hope to someday work in a studio in Nashville, TN recording country music. I plan to move to Nashville near the end of 2010. As much as I love the studio, I also love the stage. I've played guitar for 10 years. I've also played drums and bass for 6 years. My dream is to tour the country playing in front of thousands of people. I would love to be a part of Carrie's road band.
