  • York Fair

    09/10/07 0 Comments

It all starts at 2AM on Saturday as I wake up after a big whopping 2 hours of sleep. Fashion Rocks was on the night before how could I miss it. I had a 6AM flight to Baltimore and an hour drive to the airport. I make it to the airport around 4:30AM. Check in and eat a roll and start on my trip. Since there are no direct flights I ended up going to Baltimore via Atlanta. Luckily for me I got off the plane that I needed to connect with and didn't have to trek across the airport to change planes. Left Atlanta on time which is amazing and got to Baltimore early. Robin picks me up and we head to York stopping on the way at Cracker Barrel. We get to York around noon and drive around the fair to see how big it was and where was the best place to park. We didn't think we could waste 6 hours there so we decided to visit downtown York. We got our own personalized tour as were the only 2 people who wanted to see the historic York homes. It was interesting and learned quite a bit and we wasted a couple of hours.

We then went to the fair. Earlier we saw the grandstand and that there was a parking lot behind it so we pulled into that lot. We walked in looking at the stage and seeing some people up there doing some microphone testing and thought this would be a great place to see sound check. We figured it would be awhile till they did that so we walked around the fair. Saw cows, pigs, poultry, horses and the usual fair stuff. It was HOT so we tried to find the air conditioned places. So we come back and hear the band on stage so we go around to the side and start watching. Just the band no Carrie so we head back in to will call to see if any other people had shown up for the meet up. Nobody there and we go up to the gate of the grandstand and we hear Carrie talking. Soundcheck is about to begin. We then hear the first chords of Go Your Own Way and Carrie starting to sing it. We're thinking "yes she's going to sing it tonight". We run around to the side and watch and listen to soundcheck. Carrie looked like she was in a very good mood jumping around. They do YAB next and then we notice a group of people in the parking lot behind the busses. I saw some black shirts and figured they must be fan club. So we walk over there and see that they are but we didn't personally know any of them. The busses were parked behind the stage and the barriers weren't that far behind them. We saw Matt and Keith and some of the roadies hanging out outside. Then we see Carrie walking from the stage towards her bus. A bunch of us fans yell "Carrie" and she comes straight over. She starts signing and taking pictures with everyone. At one point she ran out of stuff to sign and said "Is that all you've got?" Since she seemed to want to keep signing we gave her more stuff. It was so great of her to do that. I took pictures and I know someone else posted a video of that signing. She then went back into her bus.

We decided to go back to Will Call and see if anyone else showed up. Yes we see Rob,Renee,Jenn,Lynne, and Ed there. Robin had met them before so I introduce myself. We tell them about Carrie signing behind the bus and Renee about has a heart attack. She can't believe she missed it. Renee and Jenn decide to go hang out behind the bus in hopes of Carrie coming out again and the rest of us eat. Had a nice time talking to Lynne,Rob, and Ed. Rob had a meet and greet and he was nervous. After eating we decided to see if we could find anybody else. Robin had called Jeff and he was somewhere at the fair. We figured everybody was congregating behind the bus so we went there again. A larger group had gathered now and we see Don and Jeff. I had met Don before but never Jeff so I introduced myself. I see Perry again whom I had met in Farwell. Also meet Enrico. We are all standing and talking and Nikki sticks her head out of the window of the band bus. Sweetandsouthern then calls me and tells me that Carrie is online at the fanclub. I tell her we are behind the bus and to start a thread and tell her to get her butt out there. LOL She went offline before they did it. We know Carrie has a meet and greet at 7:15PM as Rob got his pass and told us the time so she has to leave the bus. Heather and Michelle come in and it was nice to finally meet them. I had seen them at various concerts but we never actually met. Heather starts handing out the Amy pictures and tells us that we are going to get her to sign after the show since Carrie isn't going to. Don shows us the blue hair Amy T shirt as well. Robin goes back to the car to get her signs and disappears for a long time. I'm wondering where she went. I look back behind the cars and she's there talking to Jonathan the keyboard player. Heather and Michelle are there talking to Shawn. I come and met Jon and we talk for awhile. I asked him how it was to play with Lindsay Buckingham and he said it was very exciting. It was close to show time so we head back to see the opening act. They were pretty good. The place was packed and it was the largest crowd they had ever played in front of. The only seats left were the ends of the grandstand otherwise the place was full which is unusual for an opening act.

After Antebellum we wait around for Carrie. I see so many kids in the crowd. Lots of families which was nice to see. From how they reacted to Antebellem I thought I think they are going to be good.

Carrie comes out and everyone stands up and goes wild. The crowd was a good one they stood for at least the first third of the show and then sat just beforethe acoustic part then got up again with IRY and didn't sit again. It was great to hear SS live as it is amazing. After SH everyone was screaming and I heard a chant of "CARRIE" from the grandstand. She then comes out for the encore and starts with Go Your Own Way. I knew it was coming since we heard the soundcheck and it was great to hear it Live with no Lindsay. She got the electric guitar out and was rocking out. A real highlight for me. She sung Alone great as usual and then did IAICA. The band surprised her midway and it looked like she was having a ball. I think others have covered all the chit chat she did and that she was barefoot and lost her shoes at one point. She was really entergetic and bouncy. During the guitar solo of SCOM she,Nikki, and Ashley were at the top of the stairs jumping up and down. Carrie has really loosened up and I think the band has a lot to do with it. It was great to see her having as good as a time as us.

After the concert we gather around and waited for the merchandise booth line to get short so we could see Amy. We gave her the pictures and she autographed them all. Afterwards I was beat and ready to get some sleep. We went to the hotel and SNL was on. Had to stay up and watch Carrie again. Ended up getting to sleep after 1 AM.

All and all had a great time. Carrie was great and spending time with all the carriefans is the highlight of it all. I was glad to finally meet a lot of the people I had been reading on the forums at CF and here. Next stop is Opry on the 20th.

    07/21/07 0 Comments

I posted a brief review but thought I'd go into more detail here.

Start from the beginning. Since Country Thunder was on a Thursday I initially thought no I can't go. I'll go to Farwell instead since it was on a Saturday. While in Farwell I run into another Carrie fan who pretty much convinced me that I had to go to Country Thunder as it was just too close to pass up. I had checked for tickets before I went to Farwell and saw some VIP still avaliable. So after I got home from Michigan I look at the site and see yes still some tickets. I call Robin up and ask her where are they sitting? Luckily I found a seat a row in front of them. So yes another $170 dollars for Carrie. This time I could drive back on the same day though.

Fast forward to the day of the concert. All I can say is shun Chicago construction. It didn't matter which way I went it was under construction. I had to leave late enough not to hit rush hour but not too late so I could make it for lunch as I was eating one of those meals I paid that $170 for. Long story short it took me a lot longer than I thought it would. Got there around 12:30 and met up with Robin, Denise, Judy, Chuck, Shelly, and Pat. Since there weren't a whole lot of people there got great parking. Could go back to the car without having to make a hike. Ate lunch which was OK. I have to say Farwell had better food. Got lots of water and coke though and a bathroom with running water. No port a pots was worth the money. lol

So after lunch we walk around. Lots of little places to buy stuff. T shirts, jewelry, hats etc. We come back and I show my pictures from Nashville to Judy and Chuck. It was great seeing them again as it had been 7 months since New Years Eve when they kindly lent us their basement to stay in for Carrie's concerts in Minn. We catch up and talk Carrie of course. Then we go over and listen to some music.

Sarah Buxton was suppose to go on at 3 but she was on eariler. It was like wait that is her so we go over to see her sing at the stage. I have to say she was really good. I liked her a lot and is a wonderful songwriter as I didn't know she wrote Keith Urban's "Stupid Boy". Sometimes it doesn't make sense how she doesn't have record deal while others do.

After Sarah I can't remember what we did. Went to the car I think and walked around and talked some more. Then watched Chris Young a bit. Then we went back to stand in line for dinner. This lady was giving free massages for VIP people so while waiting I got one. She was good and I gave her a tip. Dinner was another OK. I'd hire another caterer Country Thunder as the Farwell people have you beat by a mile. After dinner walked around some more and went to the car to get more clothes as it was getting cooler. I came prepared with everything as I wasn't sure if it would rain and I had an entire change of clothes in case I would get wet. Then off to see Keith Anderson.

So before Keith they have this auction for charity. They are auctioning off tickets for the best seats which were on stage and meet and greets for Keith and Carrie. Keith was first and I can't remember exactly how much but I think about $400 for a pair of ticket and meet and greets. I thought that was pretty high and was wondering how high would they go for Carrie. They start the bidding for Carrie on the tickets and I can't remember exactly how much it was for some reason. Much higher than Keith and it is somewhere between $600-800 which is a huge range I know but my memory is going. Then it was the meet and greets. It kept going up and up and past the tickets until it was SOLD for $1025 dollars. We were in shock. WOW $1000 just to meet Carrie. We were saying man we met her for free. lol

Keith came on next. He is really good.
I could have gone without the dancing girls with little clothing on the runway. They weren't that good at dancing together either. I mean if I have to watch it at least be good. I guess I just saw no point in why they were there. I would have rather watched his uber fans in front of us get on the runway and dance as they were dancing at their seats because they loved the music not because they were getting paid.

OK after Keith came the interview with Carrie. I described it in my review. She said she was dating nobody and that Ace was the only man in her life. I kind of felt bad they harped on that but Tony's hometown is just down the road so I kind of understood it. She did say she was writing more on the new album and that she didn't think she was allowed at football games anymore. She was cute.

On to the concert. I moved to my actual seat now and half the VIP section was still gone at the bathroom or getting something to drink. They had been running late all night so people really weren't sure what time she was going on. Young and Beautiful starts and Carrie comes down the stairs this time lol. Love the outfit as I think a dressed down jeans and shirt Carrie is my favorite. I think it was the same pair of jeans from Farwell and it definetly was the same shoes. Carrie was great but I have to say maybe a little bit better in Farwell. It could have just been me in that it was the first time seeing a full concert from her in a long time and hearing her sing the new cover songs. Plus I was 2nd row there and saw her close up more. They moved SCOM after BHC and I still think it works better at the end. IYH and TNBLGO were back which was nice to see her sing 2 more songs. 17 songs total which is great. I'm too picky as Carrie was phenomenal.

Carrie moment. When coming down the runway Carrie sees this little girl. I thought she was going to pick her up and bring her on stage with her for a second but she just put her on the runway and posed for a picture with her. It was so cute. That girl was probably in heaven. Carrie really takes the time with her young fans.

So after the concert I head to the bathroom as I know I wouldn't make it back home if I didn't. So while in line at the bathroom this one lady says "Isn't that Carrie Underwood so cute, I think she's put on a few pounds as she was too thin last year when we saw her here ". That made me chuckle after reading that one article from Canada who said she was a sparrow that needed a milkshake. It is all about perspective as people who hadn't seen her since Idol will say she's too thin.

Anyways while in the bathroom it seems a reporter overheard my group talking about how great Carrie was and interviewed them. I miss everything. lol

So I get to the car and get stuck in line to get out. This was just after Carrie I could just imagine what it was like after Dierks was over with. So off towards home and you would think at that time it would be better in Chicago and compared to earlier it was but they work at night and shut off lanes. I ended up getting home at 3:30 AM and basically just hit the bed.

Overall a great time. Worth all the money and little problems to see Carrie.

Just got back from Michigan so here's my review. Todd has the new set list in his review and IMO it works really well. Moving SCOM to the end before IAICA was great and I always wondered why they didn't do that before since it is crowd raiser. IYH, Patience, and TNBLGO were gone replaced by ISBY, Alone, and I'll Remember You.

Ok I'll start from the beginning now as I made the long drive to Michigan the night before. I upgraded my tickets to VIP the next morning and got 8th row. I got to the venue around 3:00PM I think and got some food at the VIP tent which was actually quite good. Talked to a few people in the tent who weren't than impressed with LeAnn Rimes the night before in comparison to Joe Nichols and Daryl Worley before her who had the crowd hopping. The lady said that she was glad Carrie whom she said was young was going before Gretchen who is a more seasoned perfomer. Given the drunken state that the crowd was by 11:00PM I was actually happy that Carrie wasn't last and Gretchen was as she played to that crowd.

Anyways I watched Junior Brown and then Shooter Jennings. When Shooter was singing I looked over and saw the Meet and Greet line for Carrie. Saw a couple of girls in Carrie shirts and knew they had to be fan club members. Also saw a guy in a fan club T Shirt. So I watched and saw Keith and Matt come out and make sure everybody was who they were suppose to be. I decided to go over and talk to them but the line was already going in. Went to the fence and saw Carrie come in on a golf cart. The busses were parked out back and the meet and greet was in a tent to the right of the stage. Watched them all go in and talked to other Carrie fans on the fence. After they were done Carrie walked out and the two girls in front of us yelled "Carrie" and she turned around and waved at us. After that went and vistied Nikki and Sheza for a bit. Missed Mando who was out getting beer but talked to her on the phone. So went to our seats and saw there were lot of empty ones up front. So decided to make a move. Ended up getting SECOND ROW. Was stage Right and was where 2 shirtless college aged guys in shorts and they had this big sign that said "We Love You Carrie" or maybe it was "I love you Carrie" anyways they came up front a few times during the show and Carrie's reaction was priceless. She was looking the other way and they were standing there for what seemed like forever and she turned around and saw the sign and smiled. Then they came up later with one on the shoulders of the other holding the sign. Security shoed them away but it was funny.

OK on the the actual show. They started playing Y&B and we were watching the top of the stairs waiting for her and the spotlight shines and No Carrie. She came out on the stage instead. Why she didn't go down the stairs I don't know but I think it was the ultra high heeled shoes she had on myself. Anyways she had jeans and a white top with the high heels. The people started running up front to take pictures all during the show. She sounded GREAT last night. She did her usual set to the acoustic part. Then the band started playing an intro I hadn't heard before. I was expecting DFTRM as that is usually the first song but she sang ISBY and I was so excited to hear it LIVE. It sounded great and I was just so happy to hear her singing something new live. She then did DFTRM and then came I'll Remember You. I have to say that she NAILED that song. You guys have to hear it live it is amazing. She went straight into BHC and the crowd was on its feet singing to it. After IJCLAL she said she was going to sing a couple of songs that weren't hers. I knew one of them was going to be Alone and my friend said I bet she does SCOM. So after a full band version of "Alone" that was fabulous. I still like the acoustic version at the fan club party was better but "Alone" sung by Carrie in any version is great. After that she went into SCOM. Everybody was on their feet with that one. Todd said she took off her shoes but I guess I was so happy she was singing the song at that point I didn't notice. I remember afterwards she saying "we should all take off our shoes now" and she had her shoes back on and thought "wait, did I miss something" I'll have to look at my pictures but I may not have a full body shot with her feet. Now that I look back she did seem shorter. lol She then went into IAICA and I swear she forgot the words again. My friend said she didn't but she hesitated there like she forgot the words but started again and was just late I guess. Either that or she did the same verse twice. Anyways she got a standing ovation from the crowd with loud cheers. It was probably the BEST I've seen her overall. Her voice is always great but she seemed really at ease in front of the crowd and in a really good mood. She gets better and better on stage everytime I see her.

I watched about half of Grethen Wilson as I wanted to get out of there as there is only 1 road out of that place. Still weird to see Cherie and Mark Oakley in Gretchen's band. I did see both of them backstage (we were at the far end so could see) with Carrie's band before Carrie went on.

    Great night of Carrie.

What can I say Nashville as a great time. It was great to meet all my chat room buddies. Nikki, Sheza, Kitt, Boo, Roberts, Icey, Meds, and Sigma. I think the others covered things in their blogs pretty well of what happened. As the sober one of the bunch it was fun watching you guys.

Fab club party was great. I don't understand the complaining as it was FREE and Carrie was nice enough to have the party for us. Glad to meet more fan club members waiting in line along with seeing ones I already knew. I was surprised that I wasn't all that nervous meeting Carrie even though I don't think I said much. I did get a hug though. Just listening to "Alone" was worth the wait in line in the hot sun.

The Opry that night was great too. We sat where we could see Carrie off stage getting ready. She was jumping around before she got on stage. Loved Sugarland and Carrie was great as always. Also nice to meet and sit next to Sweetandsouthern who bought my extra opry ticket. Nikki was the celebrity of the night after Mr. Underwood recognized her and said her name. Wearing that name tag works. :)

On Wednesday I went to the Brad Paisley fan club party with a couple of friends from CF and hung out with them the rest of the week. I had to leave early to get there so didn't get to say as good of a goodbye to people as I would have wanted. Sorry :( He gave a great concert and had Bill Anderson and Little Jimmy Dickens there. Sang some new songs from his album as well. Brad is a riot. Got to see some other Carrie fans there as well. Got to meet Ron(Thaifood)and kept running into to him and Don throughout the day when we were walking around.

On Thursday we decided to go to the Daytime stage in the morning. Wow was it crowded and HOT. After trying to walk around a bit we realized we better leave early to get to the softball game. Saw Terri Clark, Craig Morgan, and some of John Anderson. While walking across the bridge back to the LP parking lot who do we see on the bridge doing intros than Blake Shelton. He's a cutie. He was there talking to the camera introducing various people. Not sure if it is for ABC, GAC, or CMT. After taking some pictures of Blake we walked by LP Field and heard Reba doing her soundcheck. She was singing "Because of You" and we're thinking wait a minute why is she singing that. Then we thought we heard Kelly Clarkson. May have not been but when she started singing the other duet we knew that Kelly was going to be her special guest.

Next was the softball game. Had an awesome time there. Saw Mr. and Mrs. Underwood walk by on their way to their seats. I think everybody has read the reviews of the game and seeing Carrie play was really great.

Thursday night concert: Even though I was in the end zone and just saw little people on stage and had to watch it all on the screen it was still great. The sound was actually quite good from there as I went upstairs at the club section on another night for a bit and it echoed up there. I enjoyed seeing Reba for the first time and yes Kelly Clarkson was there. Everybody was good including Brooks and Dunn and Alan Jackson.

Friday was heading to a little town and looking at antiques. We didn't really want to see anybody on the Daytime stage and it was going to rain and be a mess anyways. I wish I could remember the name of the town but they had a great Chinese restaurant. It started raining by then so back to the hotel to get some rest and check up on the computer to see what was happening.

Friday night Concert: Yes Carrie night. Carrie looked and sounded great as usual. Was far away with the binoculars trying to see "is it a dress or shorts?" Flashbulbs popping everywhere. BHC the highlight with everybody on their feet and the entire stadium singing along. Wondering "how does she walk in the shoes?" again. :) LBT and Sugarland afterwards were great. Sugarland expecially rocked and I was so surprised at the number of people leaving as they were missing a great performance.

Saturday. Convention Center. We had decided since we met Carrie at the fan club party that we weren't going to join the stampede to get an autograph. Got there around 10:30 AM I think. Decided to buy an official CMA Fest T shirt and we bump into Don again. He gives us the low down on where the signing was and the "hopeful" line against the wall. Decided to wait at the booth and watch Carrie come in. They put up a long yellow rope and everybody was against it. Saw Carrie walk in in jeans, Tshirt and flip flops and the hair extentions out. She looked cute. Anyways spent the next hour taking pictures with the hoards of other people while she signed. Lots of TV cameras around. Saw her walk out then went around to all the other booths. On the way out we go into the lobby and run into Kitt, Nikki, and Roberts with Kitt holding the sign "Carrie Underwood 1-4PM". They got tickets and were first in line to see Carrie when she signed at the Opry booth. Took pictures of the lobby that was jam packed with people. Went out to lunch and came back and saw Carrie signing at the Opry booth. The "hopeful" line was full and we decided not to get in it. More pictures of Carrie signing. Actually got better pictures this time. There was a photo line and Carrie would poses every 5 min. or so and the lady would yell "5-4-3-2-1" and everybody had 5 seconds to get a pic. It was a madhouse of people. Afterwards went back to the hotel and then got ready for the concert.

Sat. concert. Great concert as Rascal Flatts, Josh Turner and Martina the highlights for me. Martina got the longest ovation of the entire CMA fest after singing "Broken Wing". Of the 4 nights more people stayed to watch Martina than any other night.

Sunday. My friends all went home so I spent the day alone. :( Actually I decided to go and see the Hermitage which is Andrew Jackson's home. I'm a history buff expecially when it comes to presidents so I enjoyed it. Went to the country music hall of fame as well.

Sunday concert: The Miranda, Taylor, and Kellie concert as I call it. Lets just say Carrie has nothing to worry about as she's better than the 3 of them combined. Liked Miranda the best then Kellie, then Taylor. I like Big and Rich but wasn't too crazy about their song choices. Brad closed the show out and CMA fest was over.

I had a great time in Nashvile in the Carrie filled week. Off to Farwell, Michigan in 2 weeks to see Carrie again.

Check out the main photo gallery. I posted my pics of Julien, then 7 pics of Carrie. I hope it was alright with you I went ahead and posted that pic of Julien giving Carrie her flowers that you took. When I posted w/ the others, I credited the photo to you. Saying pic by boilermaker! I swear every concert that Julien and I attend, I feel like I don't have enough hands to capture everything. I was soooo happy to see that you and another FC member Laura were able to get some pics. :) Now only if I could find a video of Carrie singing TMBIM that night.

Hi, we met at the State Fair and you took a picture of my friend with Carrie. Do you think you could please send it to me? Just let me know, and I'll respond with my email address! Thanks so much!

That's what I was afraid of. Now I run into the problem of getting all the tickets into the same section/row. We were all hoping to get to sit together. But thanks for explaining all of that to me. I really appreciate it!! :)

The Men's room was just being shared. When a stall opened up the women would use it. It seemed weird to me. Most of the Women seemed embarrassed when they were walking out. It appeared to go OK; I didn’t wait around to watch after I did my business. I ran into the same thing at the Brad Paisley concert at the State Fair. (not my imagination)
