Carrie Underwood to “flip the switch” on the Opry’s signature barn backdrop Oct. 2

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 27, 2009) The Grand Ole Opry is joining the fight against breast cancer by “going pink” during two Opry performances Fri., Oct. 2. On each of the night’s shows, Opry superstar Carrie Underwood will take the stage to “flip the switch,” turning the Opry’s signature barn backdrop pink in support of the groups Women Rock for the Cure and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The shows will also include performances from Underwood, Terri Clark, and other artists to be announced as well as special activities recognizing breast cancer survivors and the continuing fight against the disease.

  • CARRIE CREATES HOMETOWN FOUNDATION “C.A.T.S.” – Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation


    Nashville (August 19, 2009) – Carrie Underwood has established a newly created fund to help with causes in her hometown area of Checotah, Oklahoma, the C.A.T.S. – Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation.

    Underwood says, “My hometown is extremely supportive of me and I feel blessed to be able to create something as a way of giving back; to say thank you.”

    Established in 2009, the C.A.T.S. Foundation will help with general causes, needs and services in the area of Checotah to directly impact the community. Private resources will fund the assistance.
    Information on the C.A.T.S. Foundation’s first donation to the Checotah community will be announced soon.

    NASHVILLE – August 16, 2009 – Carrie Underwood performed for 75,000 fans, Soldiers and military families at Fort Campbell Army Base on Friday, August 14 as part of the Salute to the Troops Concert. The show began the “Week of the Eagles, a Biannual Tribute to the Screaming Eagles,” a time dedicated to celebrate the Soldiers and families of Fort Campbell, KY, whose 101st Airborne Division is returning from their service in the Middle East.

    Bidding is open for a pair of tickets with Soundcheck Meet & Greet passes for Carrie’s show at Ravinia on 8/30! Proceeds will benefit Magdalene-Thistle Farms.

    Magdalene-Thistle Farms is a Nashville, TN based non-profit community for women who have survived lives of violence, prostitution and addiction. For two years Magdalene provides housing, food, medical treatment, therapy, vocational training and education – all without taking government funding and without ever charging the women a penny. Thistle Farms is the non-profit business where Magdalene residents hand-make and retail natural bath and body products to the public.

    NASHVILLE – (May 11, 2009)- Carrie Underwood made her second trip to Africa earlier this month visiting orphanages and health centers near Luanda, Angola where she participated in the area’s cause to help fight malaria. Her visit was part of American Idol’s “Idol Gives Back” charitable endeavors, and a special video package will air on American Idol Tuesday, May 12 to help show viewers how their donations have helped with various relief programs.
